This article examines the use of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms for predicting key nodes for targeting within terrorist organizational structures. The article highlights that the STONE algorithm, in particular, can help predict leadership successions and the impact of leadership removal within organizational structures. The STONE algorithm was tested against four terrorist organizations: Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, Lashkar-e-Taiba.
This article will be of use to researchers and practitioners interested in applications of Machine Learning and algorithms, such as STONE, for predicting the impact of leadership removals within organizational structures.
