Crowdsourcing Help to Combat Terrorism

You are here

This short 2015 online article and video discusses a crowdsourcing portal project by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Combatting Terrorism Technical Support Office (CTTSO), aimed to speed up solutions for combatting terrorism. The portal, called Laboratory Innovation Crowdsourcing (LINC), allows experts and operators to identify gaps to which the CTTSO poses challenges to the portal’s community. Solvers then propose and discuss solutions, with the optimal solutions being selected by CTTSO and the solution providers recognized. Two of the challenges posed on the site include Countering Violent Extremism, and Detection of Underground Voids and Tactical Tunnels.

This article, video and link to the LINC portal will be of interest to PVE researchers, practitioners and policy makers interested in new and innovative applications for crowd-sourced information and its various online platforms. It will be of particular use to those focused on counter-terrorism and violent extremism.
