Al Qaeda Recruits Terrorists on Facebook

This very short 2010 article presents an early example of extremist and terrorist organizations using social media for recruitment, in this case, Al Qaeda using Facebook. This is an interesting – and very early look – at terrorist use of social media, and what has now become a very common phenomenon.

This article may be of use to researchers looking into the contemporary phenomenon of social media use by the Islamic State (ISIS), Al Shabaab, and others.
